NEWS JUNE 2010

Dear friends and sponsors of YCM!

On the first day of June the tutors and 30 students visited Desa Anak Anak (DAA) at Cipanas, Bogor (about 2hours away). DAA is a non-for-profit organization that provides services, alternative education, vocational training, organic farming projects and more for poor youth and is run by Project Manager Samsul Maarif, sponsored by a variety of local, national and international donors. Here is their website http://www.yumindonesia.org/index.php/en/ We link with them regularly for activities, as we have very similar structure and projects.
Their location is beautiful in the mountains, surrounded by green fields and lots of space. The people are so friendly, but YCM students noticed the difference in the atmosphere and shy students which were not yet as lively and confidence as us, so we hope to be positive role models for those students and encourage them to build their confidence.
Here in Yayasan Cipta Mandiri, the tutors work together as one unity. We support each other both professionally and personally. Therefore to strengthen our bonding in working together we went river rafting on 14th at Sukabumi. We enjoyed that moment of our togetherness. We hope we can keep improving how we work together in the future.
Once every two weeks tutors take turns to present something at the tutor workshops. Apry taught us about being creative and unique. Stefan taught us about team work. They did great jobs and added more knowledge for us.
Later this month we also had two visits from Dan (an Australian volunteer working at Australia Football League Jakarta) to give lessons to our students about a different sport and learn new skills and confidence through sport.
We also received box of some promotion items to use for prizes from Jen’s friends at Office for Youth, Brisbane, Australia. Thank you very much friends!
On 17th to celebrate Bogor’s 528th anniversary 60 students and our tutors visited Bogor Istana Palace, which is only open for public during birthday celebrations for Bogor. Stefan organized it with Ase (Student Council President) but unfortunately Stefan and Jascha had to go to Malaysia for visa processes and couldn’t join but enjoyed their experience in a new country. For the students who visited the palace, it was a special and new experience to learn more about their home town and history.
On 21st Ibu Gesine returned to YCM after traveling and stayed for a week. She shared her travel experiences with the students and they loved it. She also arranged a special event to celebrate the World Cup. Our YCM event of ‘World Cup Day’ included quizzes, competitions, cooking and eating German food and of course we all know which team Ibu Gesine supports…GO GERMANY! They watched the matches until 3.30am and 30 students slept over. After a general tutor meeting Gesine invited all tutors to her favourite Warung close to her former home.
We had the chance to chat and share together.
On 26th our students went to the AFL final footy match at Cibubur but it was postponed until next month due to rain, so we have more time to prepare again.
Gyongyver Nagy, Education & Design Manager of IGTC (International Garment Training Center) gave a Saturday sewing lesson to our sewing class. We will continue this relationship with Gyi and IGTC who will visit for a lesson at YCM once a month and our 11 of our sewing students will train at IGTC fortnightly to develop and improve the students’ sewing skills, with professional factory standard machinery and processes. Thanks Gyi and your team of assistants!
Lastly on 29th Bella organized a visit from Green Earth Indonesia Company to give a lesson about organic composting. The students gained knowledge about compost and how to manage our environment, and extended their links with new people. Therefore I would like to say thank you to Bapak Genta, President Director of Green Earth Indonesia Company, for their visit.

Warmest Regards,
