JULY 2011

Dear friends and sponsors of YCM!

July was the month of lots of fun and excitement although we shed some tears together but it was the tears of happiness of embracing new hope, new life and new opportunities.

This month was open with a theme and it went awesome! Most of our students come from local neighborhood and they have some hard time to fit in among people with different habit. Therefore July theme was “MANNERS!!!!” We chose this theme to show and teach our lovely and cute (little students mostly) how to behave in wide society. It was one big blast of fun since they were so eager to collect stars whenever they showed good manners and lost stars whenever they misbehaved. The result is magnificent!! It is very amazing how much our little students could absorb all these new habit and apply in their lives. Now days whenever you meet them you will always hear greetings, excuse me, I’m sorry, is there anything I can help you with, etc. Bravo kids!!! Don’t forget to keep that stars with you because shopping time is coming soon!!!

Never ending talk about the little kids as they keep amused us with their cute innocent behavior. They learned about manners before now it’s time for them to learn some new culture!!

“Ni hao ma? China!!!” Ikhsan (the elementary student) shouted to show that he understood the sentence and everybody burst in laugh. This month YCM received an invitation from Cinta Baca, a local library NGO, to attend the Asian month event. So Bella, Nur and Ronald took the elementary students to attend the Chinese week. They were very excited as they met the volunteers from China and did some activity with them such as dancing, singing, painting and having lots of laughter. That day they learned some mandarin word, new culture and met new people. Great experience to shape their future characters and for that YCM would like to say thank you to Cinta Baca for inviting us to participate in this event. Thank you!

This month also all the students of YCM were working hand in hand together to organized a great event. This event was special because it was a farewell party for our beloved German volunteers, Phillip and Fabian. Not only that but it was also the last day in YCM before we started fasting on August. So they arranged a big lunch together which included all YCM members both students and alumnus. Ibu Lilis and the sewing crew were busy all day preparing the meals (amazing meal!!) while all the other students were busy decorating the class room and preparing some performances (singing and dancing). The theme was ‘Upil & Ipil school’ (Malaysian famous cartoon series) where all tutors played the characters (complete with the costumes and hilarious stuff).

After the big lunch together the farewell party started, unfortunately Fabian couldn’t come because his grandfather passed away in Jakarta. Nevertheless the event was amazing because the students were performing great performances and Ibu Gesine came all the way from Bali to join the joy of togetherness. We also had some guess from German, Mrs. Astrid and her two children, who came to see how we run our daily activities here and shared some happiness.

These volunteers have created profound friendship with YCM and touched each of our students’ heart by their love and kindness therefore saying goodbye that day wasn’t the best thing in the world. But it’s not over yet because our friendship will last long after YCM. We will miss you guys and wish you all the best!!
That’s all for July. See you again next month with ‘new faces’ to meet, stars shopping, lots of laugh, fun things and many more. Thank you readers for reading and stay tuned for our next up date!

Best Regard
